Sole Trader of Comm Unity (to be turned into a Purpose mbH)
Torsten Sewing has worked as a journalist, project manager, marketing communications director, analyst relations executive, and CSR-consultant in both Germany and the UK. In London, he has been involved with CSR since 2001, working with and for consultancies and charity brokers, advising TNCs and NGOs. Returning to Germany in 2004, he worked for Good.Business as well as an independent CSR-consultant.
Torsten managed communications and sponsorship for the first Israeli/Palestinian peace expedition, an “extreme” and adventurous journey of peace (mostly) to Antarctica in 2003 and 2004. Torsten developed a fundraising campaign, successfully offering corporations to engage as part of their CSR-activities. And he engineered support by leaders such as the Dalai Lama, Kofi Annan, Mikael Gorbachev, Arafat, Shimon Peres and many others. Pro bono, he remains a Managing Director of this NGO, Breaking the Ice.
From 2006 until today, a number of activities focused on peace, reconciliation and appreciative communication have been initiated or sponsored by Breaking the Ice. This involved a peace expedition to Libya, testing the assumption of a "clash of cultures"; a base-of-the-pyramid start-up of a soap cooperative and a film festival, both in Mozambique; as well as a mass demonstration for democratic discourse after a far-right populist party got voted into German parliament for the first time and with xenophobic messages.
Torsten has read literature and philosophy at Goethe University, Frankfurt, and holds an MA on Coexistence and Conflict from Brandeis University. He can be reached at torsten.sewing (at) posteo.de
